We have just returned from a trip to Norway to snowkite and enjoy all that the Red Bull Ragnarok entails. This gruelling snowkite race is part experience, part endurance challenge and also one of the biggest snowkite race titles in the World. Different people are looking for something different out of it. The location is the Hardangervidda plateau. This huge expanse of wilderness is perfect for that sense of adventure.
A strong Ozone crew headed out this year. It was great to see Ozone General Manager Iain (43rd ski), Stu from the R+D team (65th ski – dodgy tracker though!), and Hannes (22nd Snowboard from the Barcelona office. There were Ozone riders from all over the World too – Pete Martel from Canada was back to regain his title – which he did!
Swiss snowkite master Jonas Lengwiler was back on skis this year after winning the snowboard event last year. He was in 1st for most of the race but overall winner Flo Gruber then last year winner Felix Carsten just overtook him in the last lap. A 3rd place finish in a year when only 4 riders finished the course is pretty good though! Swiss Ozone rider Ronny was just behind in 5th, with Didier Botta from France in 8th.
In the women’s snowboard Ozone kite flyers Marie-Eve Mayrand (CAN) and Aija Ambrasa (LAT) came 2nd and 3rd.
IKSURFMAG editor Jack Galloway finished in 16th flying an R1. Ozone UK rider Lance managed a 21st in the mens snowboard. Pete Stinson came in 100th on the mens ski.
We look forward to next year!
