With depower foil kites all the magic happens in the speed system – this is the part of the bridle with the pulleys that allows the foil kite to change its angle of attack. The one major downside to pulleys is that the lines that run through them are constantly being worn so it is important to check them regularly and replace them. As the lines go through the pulleys and are ground up with salt and sand they shrink as well as wearing out. If they shrink too much they will affect how your kite flies. If your kite is not flying as it used to, many people start measuring bridle lines, but the first port of call should be to check your flying lines, and your speed system. Once these are good – then test fly and see where you stand.
Please note: There are currently 3 different versions of the Speed System. The most common will be for Snowkites since 2009, Chrono V1 & V2, R1 V1. This is what is shown in the video.
For older snowkites use Speed System for snowkites up to 2008.
For the R1 V2 use the Pro Tune Speed System.
It is not necessary to replace the whole speed system most of the time. If the pulleys are worn or there is damage then by all means get a complete replacement speed system. Most of the time all you need is replacement speed system pulley lines.
Tip: Do one side at a time so you have the other for reference.
